Happy Fall, Parrot Toy Angel Supporters!
I'd like to extend a warm welcome to all our new subscribers and our two newest Angels, Barb A. and Stacey B.
Along with the leaves fluttering in the autumn breeze, PTA has "winged" into "Fall Fundraising" mode. We've been hardly able to contain our excitement in announcing our three new items: beautiful PTA note cards, standard and custom,
Mission Fish auctions and BirdToyNutZ toys.
Heavenly goodies, fit for an Angel (and quite fitting for Santa's stocking!). Please take a look when you have a chance! Our Ornament Fairy is also working on our first annual holiday ornament.
The Angels have, of course, been working their talons to the bone. There are a lot of happy birdies and parronts out there!
Within the next few weeks, one of our lucky Angels will be winging her way to Northbrook, IL to attend a Memorial/Toy Hanging event at The Refuge for Saving the Wildlife. And one of our Canadian Angels will be making a delivery to PASO in Canada.
Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian subscribers and Angels! Your generosity and support allows us to "Make a difference,
one bird at a time" and we thank you.
- Lynn Williams

My Day at The Gabriel Foundation By Machelle Earley
Paige and I had been looking forward to the delivery for a while. August 20th couldn't arrive fast enough for us! We just couldn't wait until the big day where not only would we meet the care takers of The Gabriel Foundation, but the residents too. Watching everyone opeing the boxes was just exhilerating! It was awesome to see everyone's faces as they opened the boxes. It was even BETTER when someone would say that they knew exactly which bird would "just love that particular toy".
As the boxes were being opened I kept thinking that we REALLY have some extremely talented Angels! The toys were so creative and so well made, I really welled up with pride at that moment. I feel so honored to be included with such a wonderful bunch of Angels. Everyone's hard work and fantastic creativity brought so much joy to everyone that day. People seemed so amazed and said that they could not believe the toys were not purchased in stores; they were so professionally made. Not only were we lucky enough to see the human's faces when they opened the boxes, but we stayed awhile and helped distribute some of the toys to the birds. Paige helped a couple of the volunteers and had so much fun meeting all the birds and watching some of them 'beak' into their new toys! It was the most incredible day for both Paige and myself. If anyone can participate in a delivery, do it! You won't be sorry.♥

Rikki Sez...Rikki will try and answer frequently asked questions here.
Dave asks: Rikki, can you tell me how much it costs per year to take care of a bird?
Rikki sez: Well Dave, I'd have to say between $1500 and $2000 per year. There's the good food, ParrotNutz mixes, vet checks, and of course, toys! But, we're worth it! Do you have a question for Rikki? Please send it to Editor and Rikki will answer it in the upcoming months.

An Angel's Angle By Andrea FrederickAugust 20th was a glorious day for the Parrot Toy Angels as
box after box was opened to reveal over 1,100 bird toys that were hand-crafted and donated to The Gabriel Foundation. Julie Murad, founder and president of TGF, suggested everyone in attendance help open boxes. Even though this was my second personal delivery of PTA toys, I was absolutedly astounded with what I saw.
Toys for tiny birds, big birds and every size in-between. Perches, swings, and toys in every size and shape you could imagine. As I watched everyone open boxes, I felt an enormous sense of pride at being a part of this awesome group. We not only "make a difference" for the birds by enhancing their quality of life, sometimes we also reaffirm people's faith in humanity. It is almost impossible for me to express how proud I am to be part of this group. As I watched the faces of those opening boxes, I couldn't help think of how very fortunate I have been to be part of two deliveries. The Gabriel Foundation staff were completely blown away when they saw the spectacular toys that were made. I wanted to jump up and yell, "See what we do! We're for real, and we stand behind our mission statement to 'make a difference, one bird at a time'!" I kept thinking how special all you Angels are! You who are so dedicated to our mission and vision. This is a group like no other, and you never ask for anything in return except to hear the birdies all got new toys! I only had to know of Julie and Lynn in tears talking to each other on the phone to know what we do is SO worth doing.♥

An Angel Amongst Us
Parrot Toy Angels come in all shapes and sizes, and from all walks of life. Let us introduce you to one of our Angels
Angel Toymaker Nancy Volunteer, Gardener • NC, USA
Nancy worked many years as a compassionate, caring nurse. She also worked for a time as a day care teacher. She is now retired; but not to a life of leisure. Nancy keeps busy volunteering for many worthy causes such as: sponsored blood drives, Room at the Inn, Triangle Sheltie Rescue, and her church library. When not volunteering you can find her playing in the dirt. Gardening is another passion for Nancy. While she had no early craft experience, she learned crafting skills through the years that help her create the lovely bird toys that she makes and sends to our Angel projects. Having 9 parrots, 5 of which are rescues, Nancy knows first hand what birds that have lost their familiar home and family need. She has as much empathy for her birds as she had for her human patients. Her experience with re-homed birds is why she is an Angel, to help many more less fortunate feathered friends. In January Nancy and her husband George had the great privilege of making a toy delivery. They drove 90 miles to deliver toys to BirdLove Avian Sanctuary in South Carolina. Nancy says it really gave a new dimension to Parrot Toy Angels, having seen first hand the impact our toys have on the recipients. It made her very proud to be a Parrot Toy Angel. And Parrot Toy Angels are very proud to have Nancy! |
